RA 18h 36.9m (18 37) Dec +38d 47m (+38.7) Numbers in parentheses (*** ) are those presented in the DSC display.

LY : Light Year; a measure of distance(distance light travels in one year through a vacuum)5,878,000,000,000 miles

AU : Astronomical Unit(mean distance from the Earth to the Sun) 93,000,000 miles

Parsec: Par(alax) Sec(ond); a measure of distance; 1 pc=3.261 LY=206,265AU

pc, kpc: parsec, kiloparsec

Observing Club designations

AL : Astronomical League DS : Double Star Club UC : Urban Club BMC : Binocular Messier Club

M-*** : Messier Club object H-**-** : Herschel 400 object

Binary star terminology:

A: Primary B: Secondary C: Third star and so on

h: hours m: arcminutes s: arcseconds d: degrees

1h = 60 arcminutes 1m = 60 arcseconds therefore 1h = 3,600 arcseconds (60 x 60)

Sep: separation of the components in arcseconds

Pa: Position angle of the two stars measured counterclockwise from North

Comes (pronounced: combs or comez): Traditional label for the secondary members of a true binary star system

Color Difference : (0-6) in the last column; Determined by how far apart the two components are on the standard scale of spectral classification: O-B-A-F-G-K-M ( Oh Be A Fine Girl Kiss Me )
